Statement: St Attracta's Nursing Home, Co Mayo

St Attracta’s Nusing Home, Charlestown, Co Mayo is a private, family-run nursing home that is a registered provider of residential care for older people. It has no association with Áras Attracta, the HSE residential, respite and day service for adults with an intellectual disability, that was at the centre of the allegations in last night’s Prime Time Investigates.

Some media reports have incorrectly referred to the allegations being against a nursing home and this is indirectly associating St Attracta’s with the shocking and unacceptable allegations in last night’s programme. We ask media for accuracy in respect of its reporting surrounding these very serious allegations. Last night Prime Time provided clarification that St Attracta’s has no association with Áras Attracta and we encourage media to make this distinction within its reporting. We are sure you appreciate great distress could be caused to our residents and staff by incorrectly associating St Attracta’s with the very serious allegations reported upon in last night’s programme.

Established for 22 years, St Attracta’s is committed to delivering the highest possible standards of care to its residents and to providing it in a comfortable, safe and caring setting. This commitment is shared by the dedicated care staff that it employs. St Attracta’s shares Nursing Homes Ireland Membership commitment to quality care delivery in a professional environment.

St Attracta’s will not be commenting further. Any media enquiries can be directed to  Michael McGlynn, NHI Communications & Research Officer, who can be contacted at (01) 4292570 or 087 9082970.
